Page Rank Definition:
It is the value of importance of a page that google defines when it is crawled indexed.
When you type some words in search box, search engine shows results for these search words by listing some pages. Have you ever thought that how this result is prepared? Every search engine has its own method and preferences. I am discussing about google because it the most powerful among search engines due to its fast and accurate results. Secret behind the google success is the page ranking formula for particular keywords. Every time search is done by these words google shows the result according to page rank values. Page will be shown at top position having the maximum value of page rank. Other pages also occupy positions according to their PR value.
Analysis of Ranking Factors that Improve the Page Ranking:
Many factors involve in page ranking. All the factors revolve around the measurement of web page popularity, validity and its legitimacy. Google analyze all aspects to calculate the rank for a page. Reader should note that I am discussing about web pages not websites because all the pages are ranked individually even belongs to same website/domain.

  • First main key factor that I am going to discuss is the back links . These are also called inbound links. All the links from other web pages /websites that points to your website/web pages are termed as back links. Search engines consider them as votes. Relevancy towards a particular topic is calculated by these links. According to my analysis back links play a main role in page ranking.

  • Another thing that comes with back links is the anchor text . Pages are ranked for keywords being used as anchor text. It should be relevant to the the page contents. Web page can compete for these keywords to appear in search results. You may confuse about term anchor text. These are words used to describe (present) a link. Sometime inbound links works as bad back links if it has irrelevant keywords or coming from bad contents pages. Back links should be monitored regularly for their quality.

  • Domain name registration time/ website age also also matter in ranking. Google is aiming to provide results with best accuracy and fighting against spams. A website receives good rank if it has been registered for long time because the spam websites are generally registered for short duration.

  • PR value of pages from where the links are coming is also important. The links coming from pages with high PR value accelerate the increment in page rank.

  • The page size is another important variable in page rank. Try to produce large sized pages. It is logically also correct that sized pages may deliver more information (i.e information rich).

  • Pages should be continuously updated. Search engines love fresh content so update regularly to boost up the rank.

  • All the links should be fully active. Broken links disturb the ranking.

  • As I mentioned earlier in this topic that pages are ranked for particular keywords. Keywords in page title, headings h1 and h2, keywords in URL and anchor text is used to rank the page.
